The Basic Route
The common road route heads west from Pokhara toward Beni before following the Kali Gandaki corridor into the Mustang region. Jomsom is a major stop before the onward journey toward Muktinath.
Why Driving Time Varies
Distance alone does not tell the full story in Nepal. Mountain roads, construction, traffic, weather, river crossings and breaks can all change the actual travel time. Plan by day rather than by an optimistic hour-by-hour schedule.
Private Jeep or Other Vehicle?
The suitable vehicle depends on current road conditions, number of travellers, luggage and budget. Ask the operator to confirm the vehicle category close to departure instead of assuming every road section will suit the same car throughout the year.
Suggested Short Plan
A practical short plan is Pokhara to Jomsom on Day 1, Muktinath darshan and return toward Jomsom on Day 2, and return to Pokhara on Day 3. Slower groups can add a night for comfort.
What to Pack
Carry warm layers, essential medicines, water, personal documents, a light day bag and only the luggage needed for the mountain segment. Keep important items easy to access.
